Chicago District Tennis & Chicago Park District
CDTA partnered with the Chicago Park District (CPD) in five parks in the city to introduce high-quality USTA instruction as part of the day camp activities. They were excited to offer this tennis instruction to some children who might not otherwise be introduced to the game. The program ran for six weeks. The five parks that participated were Welles, Peterson, Hollywood, Warren and River. More than 80 total hours of instruction/week were provided across the five parks. Groups of 20-40 campers ranging in age from 6 to 15 rotated through tennis instruction for 2-4 hours every day. In addition, CDTA participated in training all of the CPD camp counselors. CDTA provided this instruction at no cost to the CPD. In exchange, CPD provided CDTA access to use the courts during non-camp times. The tennis instruction was free of charge to families of the camp; there was no additional fee added to the camp registration.
